Philosophy or Artists  Statement
You know the kind of thing, full of pomposity and pseudo ramblings, mostly unfathomable and incoherent or, if not that, then risible and inconsequential.
Well, none of that,

Here's my philosophy:
The natural world is enchanting and wonderful.
Humankind is endlessly fascinating with its quirks and foibles, charms and kindnesses.

Back in the last geological age when I was a young design student I studied and practiced wood engraving and linocutting and the constant mantra from my tutors was 'be true to the medium'.

I learnt  that wood engraving is a medium for fine detail, precise delineation and rich texture. Linocutting, on the other hand, is a bold and vigorous medium with strong lines and uncluttered  shapes with emphatic tonal contrasts.
Although is possible with professional tools and good quality lino to cut fine detail, this, in my opinion, weakens the essential qualities of the medium.
Because of these characteristics of boldness and uncluttered simplicity linocuts work very well in colour unlike wood engraving which is rarely successful.

duncanprint is a comprehensive portfolio of linoprints and other relief prints

with comments on techniques and media characteristics.
